Check the offer

Read duties, location, hours, pay basis, employment status, benefits, start date and any conditions. Ask who provides equipment and whether expenses are reimbursed. Check the employer through independently found official channels. A request to forward money, buy gift cards or deposit a check for equipment is a warning sign.

Review the deductions

A paystub separates gross pay, withholding, benefit deductions and net pay. Match the hours, rate and pay period to your records. Ask payroll about unexplained items. The take-home worksheet subtracts the dollar amounts you enter; it does not decide the correct tax withholding.

Plan around timing

Find out when the first payment arrives and how the pay schedule works. Keep enough cash for transport, food and other costs before payday. Compare benefit enrollment deadlines and costs using the actual documents. Do not assume a stated benefit starts immediately.

Keep evidence and ask questions

Save the offer, paystubs and hours privately. Report errors through the employer's documented process. For wage or employment-rights concerns, consult your state's labor agency or the relevant official labor resource. Before you act
